Four days of heavy rainfall has battered Izmir, Turkey's third-largest city Izmir, causing flash floodings that inundated the streets in the city.

Two people trapped in a car that was swept away by floodwaters in the Menderes district were found dead on Monday morning.

The waters of the Aegean Sea overflowed the shore and swept through the streets, submerging vehicles in the Karşıyaka district.

Meanwhile, Turkish State Meteorological Service has issued an orange alert warning for rain and thunderstorms in the Mediterranean region of the country. (ILKHA)
