The number of confirmed cases has reached 2,751,665 in the country, an increase of 17,988 cases in the last 24 hours.
While at least 8,318 patients are being treated in intensive care units, more than 1,912,319 patients suffering from coronavirus have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.
Sao Paulo, the country’s most-populated state, continues to be the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. The state has so far reported more than 560,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, with at least 23,365 deaths.
Meanwhile, Chief of staff to Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro, Army General Walter Souza Braga Netto, has tested positive for coronavirus, his office announced in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, Braga Netto is doing well and has no symptoms, and will remain in isolation until a new medical evaluation is conducted.
On the other hand, the country's Health Ministry said that it has so far distributed 216.6 million Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the country in order to ensure the protection of health professionals who work on the frontline of the fight against Covid-19.
Among the items are masks, aprons, glasses and face protectors, caps, sneakers, gloves and alcohol, the ministry said. (ILKHA)
