Martyrs’ families stated that the pain in heart is still same like the first day on the occasion of first year of July 15 coup attempt where 248 people were martyred, 2 thousand 196 people were injured. Families expressed that they will never forget the massacre carried out in that night and want this to be transferred to the next generations.
Ömer Cankatar one of those who went out to the streets and squares and sacrificed his lives in this cause on July 15, the night of the US-assisted FETO coup attempt, his father Selahattin Cankatar, narrated that night and his son in tears.
"Ömer had a superior virtue even than me, and he had justice like Omar. He would not break anybody’s heart. He would come and wrap me up, caress of me. Now there is nobody, no one left… I cannot taste anything. My son was a great person. We were like pieces,” said Selahattin Cankatar, father of Ömer Cankatar, and added that his son was martyred in front of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality when he was resisting.
Father Cankatar who spoke to ILKHA’s correspondents, said that his son was helpful like Omer the khalifa, and he had a sense of justice. Father Cankatar expressed that he misses his son Omer very much and visited his grave all the time.
“His life passed with sacrifices”
He added that his son lived a life in difficulties, expressed that he was 33-year-old when he was martyred, “Ömer has always had a hard life. His life passed with sacrifices. He was looking after us. He was a very great person, my son. He was making his living for us, and God be pleased with him a thousand times.”
“He was justice like Omar the khalifa"
Emphasizing that his son Ömer had superior virtues over him, Cankatar was unable to control his tears as he told what they have lived on July 15th.
Cankatar said, “We heard from friends later that a bullet hit in his head and he was martyred there. Normally Ömer was an agile man, but he could not protect himself at that moment. He was justice like Omer the khalifa.”
Father Cankatar, expressing that it is hard to live without Ömer, stated that he wanted to be with him that night and said, “I wish I was with him that night. Maybe I could protect him. My Lord loved him and took him. I always come to his grave. I cannot do without him. They get angry with me saying, ‘get a grip on yourself,’ but I cannot, I miss him so much. It would be great if my Lord would bring us together. We were like friends.”
Selahattin Cankatar emphasizes that he refer the killers to Allah and that the justice of Allah is stronger, “My Lord will punish those who are guilty. I refer the killers to Allah; the justice of Allah is stronger. The state does whatever it needs to be done but the important is the justice of Allah. Allah’s justice is more sensitive.”
Born and raised in Istanbul Fatih, Ömer Cankatar completed his education years here. Cankatar, who read the accounting department in the vocational school, told her mother on July 15, “Mom, what if I go and be martyred with a single bullet.”
