Brazil have reported 1,261 new deaths from coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing the country’s death toll from the virus to 41,901.
The number of confirmed cases has reached 829,902, an increase of 24,253 cases in the last 24 hours.
Brazil also ranks second in the world in terms of total cases, behind the United States.
While at least 8,318 patients are being treated in intensive care units, more than 396,692 patients suffering from coronavirus have been discharged from hospital after being cured.
Sao Paulo, the country’s most-populated state, continues to be the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. The state has so far reported more than 156,130 confirmed coronavirus cases, with at least 9,862 deaths.
On Sunday, the government decided that it will no longer publish cumulative COVID-19 numbers, claiming that former numbers may have been misleading. The health ministry is to publish only the numbers of new cases and deaths in the past 24 hours.
However, on Tuesday a Brazilian Supreme Court judge ordered the government to release the figures amid accusations of censorship. A few hours after the decision, the health ministry restored the data platform. (ILKHA)
