While the number of confirmed coronavirus cases have increased by 1,737 to 156,513, the death toll from the deadly virus has reached 5,877.

More than 112,000 patients have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital.

The low preliminary fatality rate in Germany, compared to Italy and Spain, has resulted in a discussion and explanations citing the country's higher number of tests performed, higher number of available intensive care beds with respiratory support, absence of COVID-19 analyses in autopsies performed and higher proportion of positive cases among younger people.

However, the head of the Robert Koch Institute warned that the German death rate would increase over time. (ILKHA)
