The report by the Turkish Waste Prevention Foundation (TISVA) pointed out that 15 percent of national income is wasted in one year, while 6 million bread per day is trashed.

Turkey is wasting about ₺555 billion of resources, equivalent to 15 percent of national income in a year, the report says.

The report pointed out that there is the potential to save ₺35 of every ₺100 electricity bill in the houses, while Turkey's total energy saving potential was identified as 25 percent.

Noting that the waste in Turkey equivalents to 15 percent of national income, the report said the waste has reached ₺555 billion according to 2018 data.

The report said that the amount wasted in the Food Field in Turkey has reached 26 million tons, which costs ₺125 billion.

The report drew attention that 25-40 percent of 49 million tons of fruit and vegetables grown in Turkey in a year lost or wasted which cost to ₺25 billion by the most optimistic account.

Around 85 million bread were produced per day over 300 grams in Turkey, while consumption was around 79 million. It is stated that the remaining 6 million bread goes to the trash daily while this ratio is equivalent to 7 percent of daily produced bread.

About 13 billion TL is wasted across Turkey due to wasted taps, the report said. "Turkey is expected to fight a very serious water crisis in 2050 or 2100." (ILKHA)
