The US administration began to implement the second part of Iran sanctions, which were lifted in the framework of nuclear agreements in 2015, covering energy, finance, and maritime transport sectors.

The US has sanctioned 50 Iranian banks and more than 700 Iranians including Iran Airlines and 65 aircraft to the sanctions list.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, also said that Turkiye among the countries exempted from Iran sanctions. The U.S. has imposed an exemption on oil imports in China, India, South Korea, Turkiye, Italy, Greece, Japan, and Taiwan.

The US will grant an exemption for six months to oil importing countries. The countries in question will try to minimize the oil trade with Iran in this period. After six months the situation will be reviewed.

Pompeo said they hoped to make a new deal with Iran.

US President Trump has withdrawn on 8 May from a nuclear deal that signed in 2015 between Iran and Britain, Germany, France, Russia, and China. Following this decision, the Washington administration put the first sanction package on Iran on 7 August.

The first sanction package had imposed on Iran's access to the US dollar, selling government bonds, trading gold and other precious metals and metals such as steel, aluminum and coal, and importing passenger aircraft or parts. (ILKHA)
