The land fire, which continues to burn as flames when it is dark and smokes when it is daytime, worrisome villagers in Sütgölü village in Turkiye's Bingöl, in Sancak district. Seeing the smoke rising from the soil in the field, the villagers asked the relevant institutions to conduct an examination to determine what happened.

"The land burn on itself"

Describing the land fire in the village, the Sütgölü village headman Ahmet Gündoğdu, expressed that the land fire begins with the burn of soil and continue until now.

"We thought it is a cigarette stub threw by someone, we put out the fire, and it was a small area. Then the combustion process continued in the same area. Sancak Municipality and Special Provincial Administration teams intervened with water, but the land fire did not extinguish and continued. The fire continues for 3 days. Sparks coming out of the burning land. We have nothing to do as peasants. Authorities should help us with this. The authorities are already informed about the situation," he said.  

Another villager Hasan Çimenta also said that they could not sleep at night due to the fear of fire. "My wife couldn't sleep until morning, because our house is close to the burning land. We do not have a life security here," he added. İsmail Tütüncü, one of the village's elders, said he is 80-years-old and never witnessed an incident such as this so far. (ILKHA)
