President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted a luncheon for ambassadors at the Presidential Complex on the occasion of the 10th Ambassadors' Conference.

Pointing that Turkiye is faced with an encirclement in economy as in other fields, President Erdoğan said: "It is obvious that the attacks -- which started with the Gezi incidents, continued with the December 15-25 attempt and was taken to next stage with the July 15 treacherous coup attempt -- will go on for a while longer. We must be ready for different forms of these attacks, as well, which target Turkiye's independence, economic interests, national honor, and dignity. The main reason why we have been faced with a series of operations, ranging from terror to economic manipulations, in recent years is our uncompromising stance with regard to our economic interests."

"We are indeed faced with a totally different situation"

Pointing out there is a consensus among all that the developments regarding the exchange rates have no economic basis but are of a nature of an attack against Turkiye, President Erdoğan stated: "The incident we are experiencing today has nothing to do with the crises that took place in 1994, 2001 or 2007. We are indeed faced with a totally different situation. Our Ministry of Treasury and Finance and other relevant units of the economy are taking necessary steps concerning the attacks, and they will continue to do so."

"The current exchange rates are neither explicable nor sustainable economically. Foreign exchange rates will no doubt drop to a level that is reasonable in terms of the rules of the economy in the shortest time," President Erdoğan added, further stressing that Turkiye will never give up on the rules of free market economy.

"No one should give credit to rumors to the contrary. As I said yesterday, we have seen this plot and displayed our attitude by once again declaring that we will never give up on our stance." (ILKHA)
