A small group of immigrants from Afghanistan and Ghana who entered Turkiye on the Iranian border, 3-year-old Muhammad, froze on his mother's back and lost his life.
According to information, "Human traffickers" passed migrated people through the skirts of Ağrı Mountain on the Iranian border, bringing them to the district of Iğdır in December. The smugglers have left the refugees they have brought to the Karasu River in an empty area by a minibus. The police, who went to the scene on a tip-off, faced the3-years-old frozen baby body on his mother's back.
In search of the surrounding area, a number of immigrants who were about to freeze were found and were taken to hospital by the ambulances.
The tiny Muhammad, a Ghanaian national whose body was on the back of his mother, was sent to Erzurum for the autopsy. The tiny Mohammed, who was found dead by frost, will be buried in the cemetery of the nameless in Erzurum after the legal proceedings.
On the other hand, according to the information on the website of the International Refugee Rights Association, it is reported that 25-years-old mother of Muhammad named Fatma said:
"The gang who smuggled people in Iran confiscated our passport, they took my clothes, my phone and they brought us to Turkiye with a refugee group of 15 to 20. We passed through Karasu River while my baby was on my back, it was very cold. I found Muhammad as frozen and wet when I passed to the other side. I asked for help from the vehicles passing by and the police found me. They told me that my baby froze to death. They then sent us to Erzurum."
After being treated in the hospital in Erzurum, the woman who was taken at the Yenişehir Police Center then was handed to the Provincial Directorate of Immigration. (ILKHA)
