The harvest of tomatoes began in scorching 45 degree heat in Batman’s Yeniköy village in Turkiye. Farmers who meet Batman's vegetable and fruit needs for summer said that the yield of tomatoes and their prices are also good.

The farmers, who have to work under a temperature of about 45 degrees, work early in the morning and cool until lunchtime to be protected from the heat. The farmers, who take a break for a while to work because of the increase of the effects of the heat, continue to work under the scorching heat after rest. Farmers are trying to cool off by pouring water on their heads.

Şemsettin Balin, a farmer said, “We have been working in agriculture for about 35 years. We started planting tomatoes in April. The yield is good. I hope this situation will continue.”

“We are as if burning because of the heat”

Balin said that they try different ways to stay cool because this year the air temperatures are above normal. Balin said, “This year the weather is extremely hot. We are as if burning because of the heat. We come to work early in the morning so that we can finish our work in cool weather. Of course, cool hours are not enough for us. We also have to work in hot hours. Our time is passing under the heat. The air is too hot, we burn.” (ILKHA)
