With the protocol signed between the General Directorate of Police and General Directorate of Highways, average speeds will be determined during the driving of the motorways from July 1, 2017 and criminal procedure will be applied to the violators.

Within the scope of the protocol; it will be possible to apply the traffic administrative fines to the registration plates of the vehicles which exceed the speed limits specified in the law by determining the average speeds of the vehicles from the distance and time information that the vehicles have entered between the HGS/OGS points on the motorways and the HGS/OGS points they have exited.

This system, which will be implemented throughout Turkiye as from July 1, 2017; it is aiming that driving speed limits on vehicles used by motorists on the highway and thus reducing the impact of exhaust emissions on the environment and reducing the burden on imports of high fuel consumption due to overspeed.

The system will start from July 1, 2017 on the highways of Ankara-Istanbul, Istanbul-Edirne, İzmir-Aydın, Niğde-Şanlıurfa, Adana-Mersin and Adana-Şanlıurfa. (Fırat Arslan - ILKHA)
