Mucahit Soysal claims that his father Cevzet Soysal who worked for Turkish Petroleum Cooperation was kidnapped and killed by the police 18 years ago. Soysal states that he has on many occasions requested for his father’s murderers to be revealed and tried to find out where his father’s body is buried but despite his applications the government has failed to take any step.
Mucahir Soysal underlined that they have experienced many grievances without his father in the past 18 years. He remarked that the case of journalist Haydar Meric who was killed by the Parallel Structure was resolved but the authorities have failed to take any steps to resolve our grievances.
“I want my fathers killing to be resolved just like Haydar Meric case”
Soysal raised questions to the government in relation to his fathers murder, “Parallel’s new murder of Haydar Meric has recently been exposed and the authorities begun to arrest suspects immediately. About 35 people have been arrested and there are still 31 suspects to be arrested. So why can’t they work in the same way to find the murderers of my father? How are we any different from Haydar Meric? The case of Haydar Meric has been resolved but my father is still missing. Are the authorities ignoring us because we are from Southeast with Islamic identities? We also want justice and we want our fathers murderers to be arrested and punished. I want my fathers killing to be resolved just like the Haydar Meric.”
Mucahit Soysal’s father was kidnapped by the Parallel Structure police officers in 1998 in Batman and was taken to Besiri field where he was tortured to death. Mucahit visited the field and underlined that he wants his fathers body to be found so he can visit his grave.
“Authorities promised to take care of it but there are no updates”
Soysal continued, “On January 14, 2015 my fathers abduction was released on the press. One of the parallel police officer admitted that they kidnapped and tortured my father to death and buried him in the field. We wrote a letter to the President immediately and I personally spoke to the Prime Minister in Batman and he promised to take care of the situation. I also spoke to Bulent Arinc and Mehdi Ekber and they all promised to take care of it but there are no updates.”
“Prosecutors are acting reckless”
Soysal added that the prosecutors have not taken any action despite the murder being emerged, “The prosecutors have the duty to remove our grievances but they are being reckless. We want our fathers body to be found from the field. The police officer said that he is willing to show the location despite this no action has been taken.”
“I expect the Prime Minister to start the excavation process for my fathers body to be found”
Soysal added that he is upset because authorities have failed to take reasonable steps, “We have celebrated 36 Eid without our father and we have been upset and heartbroken on each day of Eid. We haven’t been able to celebrate Eid like other people. We cannot even visit his grave on Eid. The previous government officials failed to fulfil our request we are therefore hoping that the new government would help us. I expect the Prime Minister to start the excavation process for my fathers body to be found.” (ILKHA)
