Jailed during a manhunt against Islamic movements, which took place in 90s, Veysi Ülsen was arrested and life sentenced. Veysi Ülsen’s cardiac mother was not allowed to be admitted as a visitor since the security x-ray machine gave warning alarm due to her pacemaker.
Being able to go to Adana from Diyarbakır just once a year, mother Ülsen said that she was being punished along with her son.
Old and cardiac woman was waited under burning sun
Indicating that during the admittance process, the officials trampled upon them, Sultan Ülsen said: “we were waited under burning sun before the visit for hours. I entered the main building at 13.00. I was told that the visit time is at 15.00. I said to them ‘I am sick and I cannot wait under the sun’ and asked whether I could wait inside the building. But they declined my request and I was again taken out.
When the visiting time came, but this time I met the x ray obstacle.
“I pleaded just to take my son’s scent however I was given a negative answer”
Going on to tell the sufferings she had, mother Sultan said: “after the admittance procedure, the security x-ray machine gave a warming beep. Guardians asked me why the machine gave this beep. I said them that I had a pacemaker. Then they told me that they couldn’t take me in. I told them that I have a health report. But I didn’t have it with me. If I had known this would happen to me I would have brought it. I implored them and cried and cried nevertheless they didn’t show any mercy to me. Then my other son came and offered them to make a hand body search by two women wardens. But they didn’t accept it, either. I again asked them just to see him from a distance to take my son’s scent however I was given a negative answer again.”
“I am a mother coming from Diyarbakır to Adana but they have no mercy in their hearts”
“I am making a complaint about prison administration” said mother Sultan. She added that: “I call on the President! What kind of harm have we given to someone that I with my children deserve such an unjust treatment? I am a mother coming from Diyarbakır to Adana but they have no mercy in their hearts. Did I ask something to much? I just wanted to inhale my son’s scent. We know they behave differently when it suits someone’s book. Don’t we have a right? I have become so waiting in front of the gates. Let me see my child at least. I can come to his visit only once in a year.”
“Where is the harm? If this old woman could have seen her son”
Father Ülsen said: “I, too, call on the president. When you speak on the tv, you ask where the descendants of Salahaddin Ayyubi are. Here, I give you the address; they are behind the bars. You see my spouse, a 65 year old cardiac woman having a pacemaker. She comes here under 55 degrees Celsius hot. She isn’t allowed in since she has a cardiac pacemaker. Where is the harm? if this old woman could have seen her son. What would have happened if you’d tolerated it once and let her see her son? She has been crying since then. Is that so?” (ILKHA)
