According to a NOTAM issued by flight dispatchers, only flights with special permits from the Syrian Civil Aviation Authority will be allowed to land or depart from the airport.
While flights to and from Damascus are restricted, Syrian airspace remains open for transit flights. This move allows airlines to utilize Syrian airspace for flights between other destinations, as demonstrated by Middle East Airlines, which resumed using Syrian air corridors for flights to Iraq and the Persian Gulf states on December 14th.
The restrictions on Damascus Airport were imposed on December 8th, following a significant political development in the country. (ILKHA)
