The attacks focused on key Syrian Army facilities, including those belonging to the communications and electronic warfare corps. Reports from Al Mayadeen's correspondent in Syria indicated that the strikes also targeted weapons depots in the village of Muhajja, in Daraa’s countryside, during the early hours of the day.
In northern Syria, Israeli warplanes struck the Scientific Research Center and Defense Factories in the al-Safira area, situated in Aleppo's southern countryside. Simultaneously, a radar battalion in al-Ruhaybah, located in Damascus' countryside, was also hit. Additional airstrikes were carried out in the countryside of Latakia and Tartous, targeting Syrian Army headquarters and military depots. Later in the evening, the outskirts of Damascus and the Qalamoun mountains were subjected to a series of strikes.
Israeli media reported that these operations involved dropping over 1,800 bombs on more than 500 targets in a matter of hours. The strikes have reportedly devastated Syria's air defense capabilities, granting Israeli forces freedom to operate in Syrian airspace. Analysts warn that this could position Syria as a potential launchpad for attacks against Iran, escalating tensions in the region.
In the aftermath of the strikes, Syria’s interim government issued a strong response, urging the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take action to halt Israeli aggression and enforce a withdrawal from Syrian territories in line with the 1974 Disengagement Agreement. Syria’s UN Ambassador, Koussay Aldahhak, acting on instructions from Damascus, sent letters to the UNSC and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, calling for immediate measures to prevent Israel from exploiting Syria’s vulnerable state during its transitional period.
The situation underscores the intensifying conflict in the region. As Israel continues its military operations targeting Iranian-aligned forces in Syria, Syrian representatives at the UN have reiterated their calls for international intervention to protect Syria’s sovereignty and stability. (ILKHA)
