Torrential rainfall, intensified by the La Nina weather phenomenon, has caused widespread devastation across the province. Landslides have buried homes, roads, and vehicles, while flash floods have inundated communities.
One of the most severe incidents occurred in Deli Serdang district, where a landslide claimed seven lives and injured 20. Rescuers are currently working tirelessly to locate missing individuals, including those trapped in a minibus buried beneath mud.
In other affected areas, search and rescue teams have recovered 20 bodies and are continuing their efforts to find two missing persons. The disaster has also disrupted daily life, damaging critical infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and power lines.
As the rainy season intensifies, Indonesian authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and heed warnings from meteorological agencies. The government has also activated emergency response teams to provide aid and support to affected communities. (ILKHA)
