Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s firm stance against recognizing Israel and pledged continued support for the Palestinian struggle at international forums. "We will not recognize Israel and remain committed to supporting the struggles of the Palestinian people," he stated.
Anwar accused Israel of targeting civilians and hospitals in Gaza, describing the actions as war crimes. He revealed that he had voiced Malaysia’s position to U.S. President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken but said his concerns "fell on deaf ears."
The Malaysian premier also disclosed that he has submitted a request to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to hold Israel accountable for its actions in Gaza.
Anwar announced that Malaysia is preparing a draft resolution to expel Israel from the United Nations. The move, he explained, stems from Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza and the "continued genocide and crimes" in the region.
“Whenever a regime violates UN and Security Council resolutions, the only way is to expel it from the United Nations,” he stated during his visit to Egypt last week.
The draft resolution is reportedly in the negotiation phase and is expected to be presented to the UN General Assembly soon. Anwar had first disclosed the plan earlier this month while addressing the Malaysian parliament.
Malaysia’s initiative reflects its broader advocacy for Palestine, with Anwar stressing that Israel must face international consequences for its actions. The resolution will require strong international support to pass through the UN General Assembly. (ILKHA)
