The Presidential Directorate of Communications’ Center for Combating Disinformation announced the statement, rejecting claims circulating in media and on social platforms.
"Claims that Türkiye's trade with Israel continues are false," the center stated in a post on social media platform X. It clarified that since the suspension date, no customs declarations have been registered between Türkiye and Israel.
The center also addressed misinformation regarding Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) data, stating that references to Israeli trade statistics actually apply only to data before May 2024. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat reiterated this stance, affirming that all trade activities with Israel have ceased. Bolat also emphasized that the trade halt will remain until Israel implements a permanent cease-fire and facilitates unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza.
While trade with Israel is suspended, Türkiye maintains trade ties with Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. This arrangement, authorized under a mutual agreement, allows trade transactions once the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy verifies goods are destined for Palestinian territories and exported by Palestinian entities. Exports to Palestine pass through Israeli ports due to the absence of an operational Palestinian port, but they require prior approval from Palestinian authorities.
Explaining why Israeli sources may still list trade with Türkiye, the communications center noted that Israel includes all Palestinian trade under its own trade statistics, a position also highlighted by Palestinian Minister of National Economy Mohammed al-Amour.
In addition to the trade suspension, Turkish officials have urged the global community to impose an arms embargo on Israel. The call for international action comes as Israel continues its military campaign in Gaza, defying a U.N. Security Council cease-fire resolution. The offensive has reportedly resulted in over 43,000 deaths and has left the densely populated enclave in critical condition.
