Tlaxcala state Civil Protection received the emergency call shortly after 3 a.m., responding to the site located about 87 miles (140 kilometers) east of Mexico City.

Preliminary information from plant workers indicates that the fire was triggered by an explosion when molten steel came into contact with water. Emergency teams were able to control the blaze, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing. The condition of the injured individual has not yet been disclosed.

Tlaxcala Governor Lorena Cuellar offered her condolences to the victims' families and announced plans to visit the site. (ILKHA)
