The embassy stated on Monday that it is in contact with local authorities to verify the situation.

According to media reports, the cargo aircraft, identified as an Il-76, was allegedly shot down by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Darfur. The RSF reportedly downed the plane by mistake.

The aircraft was said to be operated by Airline Transport Incorporation FZC, a company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Footage circulated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) purportedly captured the moment of the crash and its aftermath. Additionally, reports claim that Russian Federation passports were found at the crash site.

The Russian government is now looking into these claims as the investigation unfolds. Further details are expected as officials work to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident. (ILKHA)
