The incident occurred late Tuesday evening in Majiya, a village in Jigawa state.
According to local sources, the tanker driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and spill fuel into a drainage ditch. Residents quickly gathered to collect the spilled fuel, but tragedy struck when the tanker exploded.
The death toll is expected to rise as rescue efforts continue. At least 50 people were seriously injured in the blast. Jigawa police spokesperson Shiisu Lawan Adam confirmed the incident and the provisional death count. (ILKHA)
