CAO spokesman Jafar Yazarlu confirmed that the cancellations are a result of the EU’s sanctions against Iranian airlines, including Iran Air, Mahan Air, and Saha Airlines. The sanctions, approved on Monday, allege that Iran has been supplying ballistic missiles to Russia for use in the Ukraine conflict, an accusation Tehran has firmly denied.

Yazarlu explained that the decision was made after Iran Air was unable to secure permits for landing at European airports, aiming to avoid further disruptions for passengers. He added that the CAO would take necessary steps to facilitate alternative travel options for passengers affected by the cancellations.

The EU's new sanctions target seven Iranian individuals and seven entities, including the three airlines, under the pretext of Iran's alleged involvement in military activities related to the Ukraine war.

Iran has consistently rejected these allegations, maintaining that its stance on the conflict is clear, calling for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations involved. (ILKHA)
