In a statement posted on X, Borrell expressed concern over the escalating death toll from Israeli strikes in Lebanon, which he described as "alarming." Current figures indicate over 500 casualties, including 50 children. "The Security Council has to play its role. We urgently need to halt the path to war. Both sides need to implement an immediate ceasefire," he urged.
Last Monday, Borrell characterized the Israeli attacks on Lebanon as approaching a state of "full-fledged war," emphasizing the extremely dangerous and worrying nature of the situation. “If this is not a war situation, I don’t know what you would call it,” he remarked, pointing to the increasing number of civilian casualties and the intensity of Israeli military operations.
