“The level of suffering we are witnessing in Gaza is unprecedented in my mandate as secretary-general of the United Nations. I’ve never seen such a level of death and destruction as we are seeing in Gaza in the last few months,” Guterres stated in press remarks on Sunday.

Guterres expressed further concern about the potential spillover of violence into Lebanon, warning that the region could experience a catastrophe similar to the ongoing devastation in Gaza. "Turning Lebanon into another Gaza would be a devastating tragedy for the world," he emphasized.

The violence has seen a sharp escalation, with the Israeli occupation forces killing 40 Palestinians and wounding 58 in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours. Since the conflict intensified on October 7, the death toll in Gaza has reached 41,431, with nearly 96,000 people injured.

The ongoing bombardments continue to draw international scrutiny as calls for ceasefire and humanitarian aid grow louder. (ILKHA)
