According to local authorities, the landslide, caused by rapid rain in the city of Kangding in southwest China's Sichuan Province, resulted in eight fatalities and nineteen missing villagers. Additionally, in Ridi village, buildings were damaged, and a bridge fell due to the tragedy.
The natural disaster killed 6 people and left 11 missing in the village, while four vehicles fell off the collapsed bridge. One person was rescued and hospitalized, with 2 more confirmed dead and 8 still missing.
Search and rescue operations in the region are underway.
The disaster happened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in Kangding, which is in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze. It destroyed houses in Ridi village and knocked down a tunnel bridge. (ILKHA)
