Haniyeh was reportedly killed in an Israeli strike in Tehran, where he was attending the inauguration of Iran's new president. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was also present at the ceremony.

“The attack shows the Netanyahu government has no intention of achieving peace,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement. “This assassination aims to spread the war in Gaza to a regional level,” it warned.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards confirmed Haniyeh's death, stating that his residence in Tehran was "hit," resulting in his and a bodyguard's martyrdom.

Haniyeh, a frequent visitor to Türkiye, had been supported by the country, which has vocally criticized Israel's actions in Palestine since October 7, 2023, and recognizes Hamas as a resistance movement.

Further investigations into the incident are ongoing. (ILKHA)
