The heads of Iran's three branches of government—Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary—held a meeting on Monday evening, a day after the tragic incident. The meeting was attended by interim President Mohammad Mokhber, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Judiciary Head Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei.

Interim President Mokhber, who was appointed to replace the late President Raisi, chaired the meeting. During the session, it was decided that the election to choose Iran's next president will be held on June 28. The registration of candidates will take place from May 30 to June 3, and the campaign period will run from June 12 until the morning of June 27.

According to Iran’s constitution, in the event of the president’s death, the First Vice President assumes the president's powers and responsibilities with the approval of the Supreme Leader. A council consisting of the Speaker of the Parliament, the Head of the Judiciary, and the First Vice President is tasked with organizing a new presidential election within a maximum period of 50 days.

President Ebrahim Raisi and several senior officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, were killed when their helicopter crashed in a foggy, remote area of northwestern Iran on Sunday. The tragic event has prompted swift action from Iran's leadership to ensure the continuity of governance and the organization of new elections. (ILKHA)
